American Treasure Tour Workshop
Join Matthew Christopher, founder of Abandoned America, for a photo workshop at the enormous and endlessly fascinating American Treasure Tour Museum in Oaks, PA. Located in a cavernous former tire factory, the museum is a collection of thousands of strange and wonderful items, ranging from circus memorabilia, antique automatons, vintage toys and cars, pop culture mementos, store signs, enormous organs, and much, much more. Items vary from beautiful to kitschy, creepy to enchanting.
While the museum is presently open for tram tours, the majority of the collection is in areas where visitors may not wander on foot - which makes taking good photos of the collection in the low lighting nearly impossible. We've secured exclusive access for small groups to go on foot through the collection to walk through the tram-only sections and take their time photographing the space in a four hour session.
While my workshops generally take place in abandoned spaces, I'm confident that when you see the collection you'll understand why I fell in love with it and find it unlike anything you've photographed before. It's a magic place, and I guarantee you'll find it to be a trip that sparks your creativity and challenges your photo skills.
What to expect: The property is easily accessible and generally easy to navigate but the lighting can be a challenge. Expect to use a tripod although some areas can be shot with a handheld camera at a higher ISO. Exposure bracketing will be very helpful. Matthew Christopher will spend the time helping you learn how to improve your camera settings to get the best possible photographs of the space, so beginners and experts alike are welcome.
This is an excellent place for all classes of lenses, but you'll definitely want a good mid-range and zoom lens. Knee pads will probably be helpful. We'll talk about tips on photographing places like this and general ground rules at the start of the workshop, but feel free to email me with questions beforehand at email@example.com
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a dSLR or mirrorless camera and tripod to the workshop - all are welcome but point & shoot cameras may be inadequate to photograph the space.
